Gynecology
The physicians provide gynecologic care throughout a woman's life. Examination and check-ups are in compliance with health guidelines. Appointments should be scheduled at least one month prior to the requested date with your physician. Urgent gynecologic problems and concerns are treated as they might arise. Please understand that physician schedules are often full, but the receptionists will make every effort to locate an appointment that meets the medical urgency of your problem as well as your schedule.
Obstetrics
Over the last 45 years, the physicians of the practice have cared for the birth of generations of area residents. Today all physicians in the practice care for a pregnancy as a team, meeting with each patient at least once during the term. The practice provides total pregnancy term care. The physicians conduct special, weekly pregnancy clinic for high-risk obstetric patients.
Infertility
The physicians conduct initial examinations of possible fertility problems. As indicated the patient may be referred to a local specialist for infertility treatments.
DexaScan - Bone Mineral Density (BMD)
Millions of women in the US have thinning bones. It is a silent disease with no visible symptoms. Your doctor may schedule your BMD test for a number of reasons - if you are postmenopausal or if you recently discontinued hormone therapy (HT or HRT). There are also several risks factors: family history, Caucasian or Asian descent, thin build, smoking, infrequent exercise, too many alcoholic or caffeinated beverages, too little calcium and vitamin D.
The physicians will review your risks factors and advise on having a BMD test. The test is quick, simple, and painless. You don't have to undress. It is a touchless scan similar to an x-ray that takes literally only minutes. The DexaScan BMD test, that we use, is the "gold standard". A highly sensitive machine, it measures hip, spine, or total body. Talk with your physician about having a DexaScan BMD test. You can take steps to control your bone health.
Pelvic Floor Therapy
If you suffer from frequent, sudden urges to go to the bathroom or urinary leakage, you are not alone. Over 17 million people suffer or make do with these problems. It is a common medical condition of bladder control that may be assisted with a special exercise therapy. However, there may be a solution for you, without medication or surgery. You do not have to "put up with" leakage and the associated concerns. Ask our physicians about Pelvic Floor Therapy. It is not simply "Kegel" exercises. The therapy consists of biofeedback and electrical stimulation weekly over six weeks during a 30-minute clinic visit. Many patients have achieved excellent results. Ask the physicians during your check up or make an appointment with Dr. Darpel or Dr. Gerwe to discuss your problems and recommended treatment.
Ultrasound
The physicians have an ultrasound technician on staff. Gynecologic and obstetric ultrasound tests are conducted six days a week at our Edgewood office. Initial pregnancy ultrasounds are normally performed between 18 and 22 weeks as ordered by a physician.
Non-stress Testing
For certain types of pregnancy concerns, the physicians offer the convenience of non-stress testing in our office rather than a hospital visit

"I thank you for the wonderful care I received at your office. I was in the high-risk group and wanted to let you know how thoughtful and caring everyone was . . . , from doctors to nurses and office staff." - Jenny Z.
